When Kiki first found the sprout abandoned in the bushes, she must have seen herself reflected in its eyes: back when she was younger, she really didn't fit in to the elite, stifling wealthy life she was born into, and finally decided to set out to find a better place where she'd be free to do what she wanted. She wasn't prepared for what the harsh, cold outside life was like, where she had no one to depend on and nowhere to go, a lonely dot in the wide expanse of the universe. She had never forgotten how incredibly lonely that had felt, a loneliness that coiled in your gut and weighed you down like a hard, freezing stone.
She saw herself in the sprout's eyes, and told herself that no one else should ever have to feel that way, not if she could help it.

This definitely shines the light on why Kiki wanted to raise the seed the most; she doesn't want the seed to experience the same hardships she had as a child, so she wants to raise the seed the way it feels less stifling and more loving. I initially thought it was because the baby was cute and raising a child seems amazing, but this shows more depth of it. I hope this issue, which she turns into something nice, doesn't bite her in the butt.
